MIKA Community Development Corporation works to improve the lives of residents in Costa Mesa, CA, by running after school learning centers and sports programs for youth, leadership and English classes for adults and advocating for the local neighborhoods in a lot of ways. MIKA is a Christian organization with the guiding verse Micah 6:8. He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
MIKA was founded in 2003 and at that time Morgan Morgan and several other local Christian surfers came up with the idea to partner with MIKA and teach the kids about Jesus at the beach while learning to surf. Fourteen years later the MIKA Christian Surf Club is going strong and many students have learned to love the Lord and how to catch a ride on a beautiful Southern California wave. Each year brings new eager surfers and our students who have graduated are now coming back to participate and help teach a new generation. According to Morgan, “As with many opportunities to serve I learn more from the kids and have as much fun as anyone just being at the beach together and learning something new about Jesus and the bible.” Cowabunga!!!!
